Remembering Kris

Kris (Kasten) Violette was a beloved vocal teacher at Pleasant Hill High School who inspired her students while eventually facing a rare form of aggressive leukemia that took her life on February, 7th 2019.

Kris, a Billie Alumni, was always absorbed with music. As a student, every spare moment was spent in choir. Eventually she became the vocal teacher at PHHS and created a powerful bond with her students who came to see her as a “mentor, mother figure, and a friend to everyone. She gave respect, confidence, and love to each and everyone of her students.”

“Kris Violette helped me get through so many things in the time I knew her. She took time out of her day to make sure each and everyone of her students was doing okay even if she wasn’t. She will always be a huge part of my life…Kris influenced my love in music, and let me know that I shouldn’t be afraid to use my voice.

Kris will be remembered for her humor, her sensitivity, her love for tomato soup and her love for her students and the music. Chansonnieres loved to sing Remembering Decembers to her.

Finally Kris carried her cancer diagnosis with honesty, vulnerability and courage. As in her life, her suffering was marked by her passion for her students and for music.

This scholarship is for students interested in pursuing music after high school.
