Joan Hladky Creativity Scholarship
Each spring, one or more applicants may be awarded a $500 scholarship and/or a DI Global Final Stipend ($100-$200) by the Pleasant Hill Education Foundation, based upon their demonstrated commitment to Oregon Destination Imagination (DI) and creative problem solving (CPS). Applications will be evaluated without regard to applicants’ GPA, gender, age, citizenship, sexual preference, or ethnicity.
WHO IS ELIGIBLE?
Applicants must be Oregon residents and attend Pleasant Hill District School.
Applicants will fall into one of two categories:
1. High School Senior with two or more years of DI continuing at the high school level to continue study at a community or junior college, college, university or trade school the following fall,
2. A PHSD student with demonstrated financial need whose DI team will attend Global Finals the end of May
HOW DO I APPLY?
The following items need to be completed in order to apply:
1. Scholarship Application Form
2. Transcript (the Board will reach out to Clarrissa Anderson in the High School Counseling Office to obtain a copy of your transcript)
3. Essay in which you describe your Destination Imagination (DI) and Creative Problem Solving (CPS) Experience. Please list the years and main DI challenges (or other CPS challenges) you participated in: List any awards you or your team received (1st, 2nd, or 3rd place finishes, DaVinci, Renaissance, Spirit of DI, etc.) and note the tournament level and year received. Be sure to include any DI or other CPS volunteer experience.
4. Submit two brief letters of reference. Neither may be from a close relative. One must be from someone who has personal knowledge of your participation in DI and/or CPS. The other letter should be from a person who knows you from school or from a non-DI extracurricular activity. Both letters must specifically address your creativity and team work skills.
WHEN ARE APPLICATIONS DUE?
Completed items above should be emailed in one PDF to amckee@phillfoundation.org by May 3rd, 2024.
WHEN WILL NOTIFICATIONS TAKE PLACE?
The Pleasant Hill Education Foundation scholarship selection committee and board will review the applications in May. Candidates will be chosen and notification will be given to the Pleasant Hill High School Principal and Counselor. The scholarship recipient will be announced at the Awards Night in June or via email.
